Catherine Puma

Catherine Puma (she/they) is a queer author living in Alexandria, VA with her husband and two rescue dogs. She has been writing from a young age, serving as Vice President of her high school literary magazine and then Secretary for her college creative writing club.

With a B.S. in Environmental Sciences & English and an M.P.S. in Tropical Marine Ecosystem Management, she often brings science, nature, and conservation themes to her creative work. In her day job, she is a consultant contracted to help U.S. federal agencies manage ocean policy programs and science initiatives. Off the clock, she's an active member of the Arlington Writers Group, Poetry Society of Virginia, and Women's Aquatic Network.

A series of her haiku won honorable mention in the Poetry Society of Virginia's 2025 Annual Adult Contest.

Catherine was a guest on the 10/03/25 "Revising" episode of the Work in Progress writing podcast, where she discussed her poem, "Leaves on the Tree".
